Combustors

Winbro produces many cooling hole solutions in aero and industrial turbine combustors. Combustor cooling is conducted in two primary forms, wall and effusion cooling. Some combustors utilise both forms. In general a wall cooled combustor will have less holes of a greater diameter and utilise the shape of the combustor to facilitate effective cooling, whereas an effusion cooled combustor has many thousands of small holes acutely angled to the side wall of an essentially conically form.

The materials utilised, generically known as super alloys, use elements of nickel, cobalt, or nickel-iron. Super alloys rely heavily on chemical and other processes, such as the innovations that Winbro have developed. These innovations make machining processes possible that otherwise are not achievable with conventional processes.
