VANE Cooling Holes

The Aero engine contributes a major percentage of the improvements required in fuel consumption and emissions required by the industry. As a result engine operating temperatures are continuously increasing, which necessitates step improvements in cooling, achieved through a review of the number of cooling holes, their shape and strategic location. Therefore jet engine manufacturers increasingly need a reliable process that can make these holes quickly and accurately, reach hard-to-access areas of part geometry and form the holes to a complex exit profile.

Winbro offer two different solutions for the manufacture of these cooling holes – EDM or Laser. The choice of these technologies depends upon applied coatings (Ceramic or Metallic), metallurgy / productivity requirements or component/feature access.
