Applications Engineer

We currently have the opportunity for a new Applications Engineer working within our team to develop novel laser and EDM processes for both defined customer requirements and R&D developments.

In essence this is a 4-stage process. Initial development in the Winbro application centre, translation of this process onto commercial Winbro machine tool platforms, prove out at customer site and customer training. As well as the primary processes of laser and EDM the role also encompasses ongoing development of other technologies such as vision and in machine inspection that support core processing. The role is technically challenging and involves the development of cutting-edge technologies and applications. As such a rigorous, data-based approach is critical and the successful candidate will be able to clearly demonstrate such an approach. 

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in the applications team developing technologies and process for both new and existing Winbro machine tools
  • Work with suppliers to manage the development of new technology and subsequent adoption into Winbro applications
  • Provide input to the machine tool design team as the customer of their products
  • Provide technical support to customer remotely and on site

Educational attainment required:

  • Ideally a degree-qualified applications engineer with a minimum 5 years professional experience in materials processing / manufacturing technology background

Experience / Knowledge requirements:

  • Engineering / scientific degree
  • Strong materials / manufacturing process technology background
  • Experience in working with CADCAM systems and 5+ axis machine tools
  • Good understanding and experience of on machine probing methodologies

Desirable experience includes:

  • Laser processing (high power and / or micro machining) including scanner systems
  • EDM processing
  • Experience with 3D vision systems
  • NC programming of 5+axis machining
  • Formal training in 6 sigma (green belt/black belt) methodologies
  • Knowledge of technology readiness structure
